I appreciate it can be difficult to pick a counsellor, I hope this section can let you know a little about me.

I actually come from a scientific background. Before I made the step to the therapeutic world I worked in a lab. It was through my experiences at university I began to realise the value of mental health support and how it was something I was far more passionate about than any work I had done before.

I don't take a scientific approach to therapy. Science is great, but in therapy I don't feel there is a correct answer or rules that apply to all. I aim to see each person as an individual who will need both a unique way of working and a unique relationship with myself, using all I've learnt as simple good practice to find that path.

How I do use my scientific background is in the way I understand things in my own world. I see emotions as energy that need to be used; how anger can be an energy for imposing your will on others, or speaking up for yourself in the face of injustice. I understand change in terms of Newton's laws of motion: "objects at rest tend to stay at rest and objects in motion tend to stay in motion". We need to access our emotions for the energy to change from being stuck in one place to moving towards what we want. Sometimes I do offer these concepts in the work where they feel appropriate to the person in front of me but primarily they inform my own world view. I use this alongside our explorations to make the best sense I can of your situation, so that we can figure out both what is going on and what you would like to do about it.

My personal philosophy most closely follows that of Alfred Adler. Going into it is far beyond the scope of a little introduction like this but what I'm aiming to show is that I use all these ideas to have a strong theory of myself that helps me to understand where I begin and others end. Then I can hold resilience in the work and form relationships that are unique to myself.

I'm committed to continuing my own journey through training and personal development. Currently I am studying a Diploma in Supervision with the Minster Centre
